Earth is a cold, dark, inhospitable place. All of America has been covered in a never-ending snow fall, forcing its inhabitants to work everyday to survive. One day a boy is left alone in this cold wilderness by his only family with no idea of their reason for leaving. Finally the boy sets out on a journey with the goal of finding or finding out what happened to his family. During his journey, he must survive the not only climate but people who have grown just as cold and dangerous as the landscape.
When you read the back cover of this book you kinda think “huh…. is this any good.” It is. I think it is a glorious example of how a writer can show us more about ourselves by portraying humankind in the worst of situations. It can show us at our best! It also shows us how far we can fall. Men who have become less than man is a very apt description of the people who fail to adapt to this new environment. This book is a calm observation of the human race and a great book to read on a rainy day.
