Lois Lowry books are amazing. Everyone knows who she is, and we all think of The Giver when we see her name. (At least, I do.) I have to say, I never knew that Gathering Blue and Messenger were The Giver companions! So when I heard Son was coming out and that it was the last in The Giver series, I had to investigate! I was immediately drawn to the cover of Son and the synopsis grabbed me, so I decided to try it out.

You don’t have to have read any of the books before Son. I do recommend reading The Giver, simply because you in Son Lowry doesn’t really explain the society that the characters are in, and you get a better picture of the society in The Giver. I loved how Claire, the heroine, is so relatable, even though she is dealing with obstacles I’ve never even had to consider in life. I felt deeply for her, and wanted her survive more than anything else. I wanted her to find her son, and to live her life to the fullest, no matter what stood in her way.

Seeing the Dystopian genre growing since the publication of The Giver was an amazing thing. And then to see the last book in that series come out in the middle of the Dystopian craze… It’s mindblowing. To see how many people have built on the world Lowry created, and have helped her to grow the genre… I love seeing literature grow! It’s so beautiful!

Five stars to Son – it’s beautiful, brutally real, and such an amazing story of how love conquers all.
