Our Favorite Banned Books

banned books week

Here at the Teen Press Corps, we love all types of books and want everyone to decide which ones they will read for themselves. However, not everyone feels that way. What we wonder is, if you take away one book, what are the chances that you will take another? Anyhow, here are some of our favorite books that have been banned…

harry potter and the sorcerer's stoneKENDALL

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

Of course, the Harry Potter series is most widely know to be the most challenged book and it is amazing. J.K. Rowling is the queen of witchcraft and wizardry. If you haven’t read these books yet, I would suggest you drop everything and begin. You will get no story like it and it is perfection!

harry potter and the chamber of secretsOLIVIA

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

My favorite  banned book is definitely Harry Potter! This has been my childhood favorite of mine for a very long time. But seeing it as a banned book? That’s just not right. It’s too good!

eleanor and parkWILLA

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

This is my favorite novel, mainly because the plot is so addictive. I read it all in one sitting, and the writing is incredible. The author really understands what it is to be a teen and in love. So great!

the golden compassEMILY

His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman

This book is one of my favorite books growing up. It has a great plot to keep young readers interested and it has an amazing message through-out. I can’t believe anyone would ban this book!

the perks of being a wallflowerADRIENNE

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

I cannot believe this is a banned book! It is definitely the go-to book about being a teen and all the issues you may go through in high school. It’s also a great book for introverts and puts out a very important message that teens need to hear that they maybe don’t get to hear enough: It will be okay!

captain underpantsMIRIAM

Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey

This book is the best book ever! I can totally see why people will think potty humor is inappropriate but let’s face it bodily functions are a part of life and definitely a huge part of life when you are seven years old! I had so much fun reading this series when I was younger and I would totally recommend this to a reluctant reader who just wants something funny to read!
