When Rachelle was young, she was innocent. Training to be a woodwife, and to protect her village from the evil that surrounds her world. When a meeting with a creature she has been told to hate goes horrifyingly wrong, her life is changed forever.

Three years later, she is bound to the evil she had hoped to defeat, and consumed with guilt. She pledges her life to the King, and to destroying the Woodspawn; evil creatures that wreak havoc on the human world. When the King orders her to guard his illegitimate son, Armand, a man she has despised, she forces him to help her find the sword that may save her world. The two, unexpectedly, begin to trust each other, becoming allies, and forging a love that may destroy Rachelle’s only hope at protecting the innocent, and saving all that she has left.

This is an amazing book that keeps you on the edge of your seat, always twisting and turning, making sure you have no idea how it is going to end, and that you never put it down. The writing is amazing, and Rosamund Hodge does a wonderful job at making a beautiful fantasy world with its own history and legends, always keeping you entertained. It is a spinoff of Little Red Riding Hood (as you can tell from the cover image) but the author takes it to a whole new level, unexplored by other stores that build on this traditional fairy tale. It is a YA novel, but a book I would recommend to anyone.
