Everything changes for Wylie after the accident that killed her mother. She loses touch with her best friend Cassie and shuts herself inside the house, never going out. Her anxiety is driving her up the walls and she chops all of her hair off; it’s been pretty rough. And then the text from her best friend, Cassie, (who she hasn’t heard from in a week) comes. Six words and suddenly Wylie’s world is thrown into chaos yet again. “Please Wylie, I need your help.”
Wylie cannot refuse her friends plea and teams up with Cassie’s boyfriend Jasper to find her. But Cassie’s cryptic texts are becoming more and more confusing and suddenly everything is not how it seems.
I loved this book! The way McCreight masterfully throws plot twist after plot twist until Wylie (and the reader) cannot tell what is real and what is a lie. The ending of the book left me in near shock begging for more. The construction of the characters is also one of my favorite things about this book. Wylie has anxiety and it is prevalent throughout the entire book, while most books will have their protagonist “cured” about fifty pages in. I really appreciated that it was a real and ongoing problem fairly central to the text. I would definitely recommend this book to all my friends- it was so good.
