The dead always leave something behind. Jake Strangelove’s legacy consists of a daredevil reputation and an urban exploring map. The dares he marked on the map are reckless and ill-advised, but Jaycee is going to follow in her brother’s footsteps even if it kills her in the process. Joining her on her quest are a mismatched group of kids that might just be able to pull this off.
You Were Here is compelling. I finished it in about four hours with my heart racing the whole time. The plot twists are exciting and drag you along for the ride. Whenever I had to take a break I was left wondering what would happen next. The characters are so well defined, too! They each have their own reasons for coming along, but they’re all connected through similar feelings of fear and grief and uncertainty. The different perspectives play off of each other and work well for the premise. The different elements all come together to form an interesting take on grief. I’d recommend this book to anyone looking for a summer adventure with a bit of heart.
