The Teen Press Corps has been there from the very beginning when the very first Austin Teen Book Festival was started in 2008. We have seen it grow from a couple hundred teens from the community, coming together for their love of YA. Since then it has become one of the biggest young adult festivals in the country (now named the Texas Teen Book Festival), pulling in teens from all over the world! In celebration of how much this festival has grown over eight years, and how much we love it – the Teen Press Corps would like to talk about 8 reasons why TTBF is a special place to be.
#1. The YA Community
“One of my favorite parts about TTBF is meeting and connecting with readers my age that are just as obsessed with books as I am! I’ve mad so many friends at the festival, and we’ve had the time of our lives, talking book-ish things.”
-Haley, Teen Press Corps
#2. The Authors
“Meeting the authors is just amazing! Seeing several of your favorite authors interacting with each other and their fans often leads to a lot of laughs and one unforgettable experience! I can also say that the festival gets the biggest names in YA every year!”
-Emily, Teen Press Corps
#3. The Panels
The panels are always the most exciting and interesting part of the festival! You get to dive deeper into the authors book and their thought process while writing their books. It’s always refreshing when readers knows the reasons behind their favorite books and getting to connect and ask the authors questions are an added bonus!
#4. The Game Show
The Game show is probably one of our favorite parts of all the festivities! You really get to see the author’s fun side and man, they get really competitive! It is hilarious seeing the authors compete against each other in trivia and the crowd goes wild every time. It is definitely a sight to see and you never know whats going to happen!
#5. Writing Contest & Workshop
The Texas Teen Book Festival is the place to be if you are an aspiring young author. Every year the Texas Teen Book Festival offers a Fiction Writing contest for teens. Three Winners are judged and will receive a prize of $150, as well as a full editorial review by an editor from Delacorte Press, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books! Also, the Barrio Writers will be hosting a writing workshop opportunity at the festival!
#6. Meet & Greets
It’s not everyday that you get to meet all of your favorite authors in one place! There will be plenty of panels and countless signings for you to many of the authors and get all of your books signed. It is the perfect place to fangirl or fanboy to your favorite authors up close and personal.
#7. All The Books!
Not only do you get to meet the authors who wrote your favorite books, but you also get to find new reads and get your books signed by the authors!! I mean, who doesn’t like signed books?
As you know, the Texas Teen Book Festival pulls in teens from all over the world. Not only are our teens diverse, but you can also see the continuing diversity among TTBF’s panels each year. This year is no exception, and we are proud to see that the festival is keeping the phrase “We Need Diverse Books” alive and trending.
