Charlotte Holmes and James Watson are the great-great-great-grandchildren of the famous duo; Sherlock and Dr. Watson. In this first installment of their adventure together, Charlotte and James attend a boarding school in Connecticut. After the murder of a chauvinist jock, the pair unite to solve a murder mystery before their time runs out. Told from the trusted eyes of a Watson, A study in Charlotte is an action-packed page turner filled with death threats, poison, and mysterious Moriartys.

This thrilling mystery novel is absolutely perfect for any fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle or the TV show Sherlock. Charlotte Holmes is just like how a Holmes should be and Jamie Watson chronicles it all as his ancestor would. Brittany Cavallaro does a wonderful job bringing the old stories back to life in a modern and relatable way to the modern reader. Not only do Jamie and Charlotte face down their own enemies, but the recreations of old stories and struggles sometimes pop up to surprise the faithful Doyle reader. Fans of the show and the old books will all find something to love about this series.

A Study in Charlotte was thankfully not the cheesy, mystery rom-com I feared it would be. Charlotte and Jamie are very well developed and stand out on the page in their own way in their own story. I enjoyed reading about their adventure and their, slow and unsteady friendship that grew closer as the pages turned. As the mystery unravels further, the book becomes harder and harder to put down!
