BookPeople Teen Press Corps

reporting from BookPeople, the largest independent bookstore in Texas

About Us

BookPeople Teen Press Corps is a program run by BookPeople, Texas’s largest independent bookstore.  Comprised of teens from the local Austin community, our reporters cover a variety of events and receive free advance reading copies of books in return for their honest opinions.

The Press Corps:

Our Teen Press Corp is made up of local Austin teens between the ages of 13 to 18 who love to read and write about YA fiction.

Mackinsey will read just about any book put in front of her, but her favorite is fantasy. She loves escaping into other worlds and reading about characters with special abilities. A good fantasy book with lots of detail is her ideal. If she had a favorite book it would be Wild Magic by Tamora pierce, having read it over a dozen times. The best Christmas present she’s ever received is a now full bookshelf three times the size of the one that came before it. She loves reading whenever she can steal a few moments. One of her favorite times to crack a book is when she’s walking her dog. Mackinsey has been an intern with BookPeople for 3 years and loves it!

Willa loves to read (obviously), write, eat chocolate, swim, play piano, find adorable shoes, spend entirely too much time on Twitter and Tumblr, find inspiring and thought-provoking quotes, watch New Girl episodes on repeat, smile, laugh, and live. She worships at the feet of Melina Marchetta for her creation of Jellicoe Road, and fangirls to the max when meeting her favorite authors. Willa also is an aspiring YA author, and spends much of her free time starting (and sometimes finishing) novels.
